Insert or Inset stoves are integrated stoves which are built into a standard fireplace opening. An inset stove fits snug inside a wall recess, usually in your chimney breast. Instead of extending out onto a hearth, they sit flush against the wall, taking up less of your floor space. Inset stoves have a fan that distributes the hot air back into the room rather than heating the chimney breast or surrounding bricks. With some modern stoves, there is the ability to pipe this heat into another room.
